Review: Wacha at Japanese Cultural Group

Review: Wacha

Wacha LogoHidden up in old Ann Siang Road (near the Maxwell Food Centre) is Wacha, a tea salon and Japanese crockery store.

As you enter, you are greeted with shelves of delicate Japanese plates and elegant cups. Towards the centre of the store is a bar for four, and a romantic room at the back where you can dine privately in candlelight. There is also a second room below for another more private setting.

Wacha’s selection is rather small but features a special dinner menu, which is a delight on its own if not rather expensive. Everything is served with gorgeous lacquerware and unique Japanese crockery.

Wacha 1The food there is simple yet tasteful. For a healthy student’s appetite though, the food may not be enough to fill the stomach but it’s certainly food for the eyes.

The special dinner menu changes with the seasons and starts off with an appetiser basket with little morsels of different dishes for you to sample. Next were a warm bowl of simmered oden and a plate of crispy chicken karaage.

The menu then ends off with a bowl of green tea fried rice and a bowl of miso soup. Dessert is optional for an additional price.

Wacha 2Wacha is certainly an excellent place for one to get away and enjoy a warm cup of tea, while making small talk with the staff members. If not, also somewhere couples can have a quiet meal together.

Note: Wacha is only open from 2pm to 11pm, Mondays to Saturdays.
